Description

Basic Function:

Provides Therapeutic Recreation to Health Center  (Licensed SNF) and Personal Care residents during the day, evenings, holidays and weekends as needed. Provides programming that maintains quality of life of each individual.


Scope:

 

Must have basic knowledge of physical, social and emotional changes in the older adult as well as good interpersonal skills. Responsible for applying therapeutic recreational principles to activity programs through varied modalities, i.e. music, reminiscing, small groups, games, and exercise, etc on and off campus.


Major Duties:

 

Coordinates activities with all other departments and outside agencies and vendors.

Keeps activity areas maintained in a safe, clean and sanitary manner according to all regulations.

Demonstrate ability to manage emergency situations and respond accordingly.

Maintains confidentiality of all resident information.

Knowledge of current state and federal regulations and ability to carry out requirements. Conducts all events with explicit safety and security procedures followed

Records activities in the resident’s record per Beaumont’s policies and procedures.

Meets routinely with the Health Center staff to plan services, programs and activities.

Creates an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest and positive emphasis as well as a calm home-like environment within the Health Center.

Attends and participates in annual mandated in-services and educational programs that promote professional growth and development.

Directly supervisors the volunteers at the programs.

Qualifications
  • AS degree in TR or related field
  • 3+ years experience working with the elderly
  • Experience with LTC regulations
  • Effective written and verbal communication
  • Ability to think independently with minimum supervision
